The crankshaft (V4) does not have a pulley. They have a timing gear mounted behind the front cover and the flywheel on the rear. Could it be you are talking about the pulley which is mounted on the balance shaft? If so they do float a little however side to side movement would indicate worn balance shaft bushings.
