OK Zach here's some more. On one hand, what you report is somewhat ambiguous and does not persuade me that the fuel pump is at fault. On the other, 20 years is about 120 in fuel pump years and its not expensive, so if you want to replace it fine, and if the problem goes away then that was it.
I'd like to understand more clearly is car behavior. I get that it won't start cold if ambient is over 80F, and won't restart at all if warmed up. A) Once started, does it run OK? Have good power? Stutter/stumble/die? Run as well cold as warmed up? B) Cold, does it start easily? C) When it won't start/restart, what does that mean?--does it refuse to start at all until cooled off and ambient below 80, or do you have some process for getting it started?
Take off the air cleaner, prop open the choke, look down the carb bore with a flashlight, and open the throttle fully. If there is fuel in the carb and the accelerator pump is working well, you will see a steady stream of fuel in the bore from the acc pump each time you work the throttle. All this is key off of course. This is just a simple way to see if there is fuel in the carb bowl, but can fool you if the acc pump is weak or failed.
Second, check fuel pressure as I suggested before.
