Sonett II and V4 headlight buckets are completely enclosed. There shouldn't have been an exposure to the "... back of the lights inside the hood."
The harness is built with one end having three wires passed through the grommet in the bucket and then inserted into the 'socket' that plugs onto the back of the lamp. There's no way to remove the harness from the bucket without de-pinning the socket.
The other end of the headlight harness has pins inserted into an 8 (10?) pin and socket M-F connector located on the top corner of the radiator cross member. These could be de-pinned and then fed through the grommet in the headlamp bucket, but that's a longer length to snake through.
Fresh in my mind as I just completed a 1960's sealed beam to 2020's H4 and LED conversion on the Sonett II.
