Not a lot of detail, but here's a page I found with a few "unbonneted" pix (see link.) You have to scroll down a bit to get to the nose-off pictures.
Anyway, there's nothing too fancy-schmantzy about the radiator mounting area even on a factory-stock, unmolested example -- gotta remember that at such low production numbers (never more than about 2,000 per year) the Sonett was for all practical purposes a "factory-built kit car" and they didn't worry too much about the aesthetics of the engineering solutions as long as they worked. (For a small but amusing example, look at the solution applied to the problem of connecting the horn wire from the rotating steering column to the obviously non-rotating wiring for the rest of the car. 'Hey, Sven, let's just loop the wire around the bottom of the column a few times, yah?')
Also note that a lot of people convert the top crossmember to a bolt-in piece in order to make engine removal easier, and this conversion is usually done a la Sawzall, so if your car has ever had the engine out, this might account for the 'homebrew' appearance of this area.
