HA! My '86 900S is in the process of failing 25mph NOx emissions at the Folsom Quick Smog. Heh. What a PITA it is to get Saabs past California emissions... never fun. As far as FQS, Roger (the owner) is a good guy. He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer I suppose, but he's honest and trustworthy, and has gone way beyond the call of duty in getting my cars to pass. One thing he won't do, however, is cut ANY corners. In a cruel twist of fate, my 2-door flew through smog on its first test, but then failed visual because of the open K&N. I threw back on the airbox and it has since failed four times in a row. Whatever. :) Still working on that one... :)
When the car is all back together, shoot me an email - I'd love to check it out, and maybe show it off to my Sonett, which is sitting in need of tires and paint... Conveniently, I bought a '72 to avoid the California smog hassle entirely. If it wasn't completely illegal, I'd seriously consider finding some VIN tags from a destroyed earlier car and slap them onto your '74 ... heh... Sonetts are so modular it couldn't possibly be that hard. :)
