As opposed to the furniture-type shippers, the car shippers are not likely to ask for the weight of the car. Instead, they ask for the year and model. I just shipped a Sonett V4 from Iowa to the East Coast this year; the move came off without a hitch. Got quotes from about 10 shippers off the web. I chose to go with the "covered" movers, since it was a late winter move, and I didn't want any salty water splashing on the car for the entire trip. Coast to coast, you're looking at under $1000 for the low-cost movers, about $1200 - $1500 for the ones with the better reputations. And the super-movers who move exotics will cost about double that. I went with one that had a good reputation on the web. I worried a lot, though-- almost rented a small Budget van (Sonetts fit!) if I could have found a ramp that would take the weight! Also, it seems that the driver was just a subcontractor after all.
