All,
There is a Sonett on e-bay right now with two days remaining. It is
about an hour from Buffalo, so I drove out there and took a look at
it, even though I have no room for another one right now.
The SAAB is a 1973, and was last on the road in 1976. The p.o. was a
deceased NYS trooper, and he had a small collection of sports cars.
It appears that this Sonett had a engine fire, and was taken off the
road. That being said, some things don't make sense with the car,
like why someone repainted a 3 yr old car, and the funky toggle
switch on the dash. The engine is probably junk, but the tranny looks
ok, and should be. Has good 4 soccerballs, and the amazing thing is
that the FRONT rockers and floor are still solid. Windshield is junk,
all other glass appears OK.
The bad thing is that even though the car sat for 26 years, the rear
axle mount in the center is rotted, and that's a biggie. The nose was
melted in the fire, and there is some heat damage inside the car. I
am sure the Sonett is FROZEN in place, and will require a fair amount
of effort to get rolling.
I think I got her to lower the starting bid to $325.00. If you're
close, and need a parts Sonett, there are worse out there.
Of course, like everyone else, I would be willing to assist, and if
some one wants to go in on this? (All I would want, or could use is
the soccerballs w/lugs, the rest is yours..)
