These "insulator blocks" are made of phenolic plastic, which is very rigid and doesn't conduct heat well. I use one under my 2-barrel carb and it does a good job of keeping the fuel from vaporizing in the float bowl.
I got mine from Pierce Manifolds and just checked their website, but they don't show one for one-barrel carburetors -- only the 2-barrels. However, if you could find a 1/8" or 1/4" sheet of phenolic plastic, you probably could make one using a hole saw, drills, etc.
