Hi Joe,
I just began leasing a 2005 Aero with auto/xenon/heated seats and I have nothing but praise for the car. I love it and my family has had 5 Saabs over the years (once we started we never looked back).
Unfortunately, Saab has taken some heat for less reliable scores than other makes but as far as I have seen there have been relatively few problems since the new 9-3 came out and none really with the '05s. I don't think Saab has any more reliability problems than any other make really (the real problem is that is usually cheaper to fix the American and Japanese autos for a lot less).
As for the '06 Aero... people told me two months ago that I should wait but I couldn't hold out. I'm sure with the 6 speed auto that it'll have, you'll notice a bit less lag but not toooo much difference. I love the '05 (especially shifting in the manual mode off the line).
Lastly, if you plan on having the car for much more than 4 years than I'd say yes get the extended warranty but you should be able to wait on that and purchase it right before your 3 year warranty is up (that's what my father did). It'd be worth doing, but not yet.
You got a real great price, I think. Then again, it seems like everyone is getting great prices with the current promotions.
I'd be happy to answer any more questions you may have (as would, I'm sure, some of the more technical people on here).
Good luck and keep us posted on your decision!
