For what it's worth,I just traded in a 2002 9-5 Aero with 120K miles in for a new 9-3 Aero. Both are automatics, and the new 9-3 is by far oneof the nicest driving cars I have had. Definitely faster than the 9-5 Aero, but in a way that you would need to measure at the drag strip. In the real world in practical terms, they are both plenty quick. The enngine in the 9-3, asmooth V-6, is by far the nicer of the two. Under hard acceleration, it remains pleasantly quiet, where the 9-3's four cylinder not only idles rough, but gets loud under load. Given the choice of either the sport mode of the 9-5's auto, or the Sentronic feature of the 9-3,I prefer the sport mode, since all you need to do to activate it is press harder with your right foot. The 9-5 has a heavier and more substantial feel, but the 9-3 handles a lot nicer. Try driving both and make your choice on which you prefer. If Saab had offered this nice new V-6 in the 9-5, I wouold go for it in a heartbeat, but the 9-3 is a great drive. Good luck .
