Yes, I meant white bread as in bland. Our family has had about 10 Hondas, and my wife loves her 2003 Accord EXV6. It is reliable, smooth, pretty comfortable, offers reasonable handling and power, and was relatively cheap. It doesn't pretend to be a sports sedan, and isn't. It's styling is lackluster, and it pretty much feels to me like white bread. My Prelude SH was, underneath it's few performance features, basically an economy coupe pretending to be a sports car. First gear was good for pulling stumps, and there was a big drop-off to second. Not inspiring at all at low revs. More white bread.
I liked Japanese cars much better before a couple of business trips to Japan. There the similarities between brands is even greater, as the Japanese like "harmony" -- the nail that stands up gets nailed down. Dunno what turned me off, but without taking anything away from well-thought, well-executed automobiles produced by talented people, I'll give 'em a miss, as my British friends say.
I guess bottom line, Japanese cars represent one of the world's greatest -- and most successful -- compromises. Nice total package, but in nearly every case, compromising the one or two ingredients I want more of.
