Sitting is probably harder on batteries than driving. 28K is considerbaly lower than average so the car must be siting quite a bit. When I was in the car business the batteries on new cars would often go flat in as little as two weeks when a car wasn't being driven (especially in the winter). European cars are the worst offenders. Try to get your car out for a 20 minute drive at least once a week if you want your battery to last longer.
