I have a 2004 9-3 Aero convertible with the B207R 4-cylinder engine and the 6-speed manual transmission. It’s fun to drive and seems to have plenty of pep. I think the four has a lot more room under the hood which makes the work I do easier for me. I would think the six would cost more for work at a shop because of the limited space and additional time required. Had to get balance shaft chain guides and tensioner replaced but that wasn’t too costly. The shifting feels different from my 9-5s and previous Saabs because this uses a cable rather than a rod for shifting gears. But it shifts easily enough and the clutch is easy to operate. I have heard the gas mileage is much better with the four compared to the six. The 9-3 doesn’t have quite the same solid feel of the 9-5, but it is still a solid car and feels noticeably stiffer than the previous generation 9-3 convertible. The seats are quite comfortable as is typical for a Saab.
