People put up with getting reemed by the dealer by trading in their car because they don't have much choice. Besides the reasons already mentioned, I think most people do not want to buy a car off a private owner, especially if it cost over $5000. Folks just feel more comfortable buying from a dealer, they feel thay have somewhere to go back to if something goes wrong.
Me, besides adding alot to the cost, I think buying from a dealer is worse because you can't guage what sort of person the previous owner was.
