From your own words, you've ruled the Audi out - "Slow". You try and make up for it with "I figure I'm going to get a slow car anyhow..." Damning with faint praise.
Take it from me, and from countless others - Your satisfaction with a slow car WILL NOT improve with time. Every time you go to merge on the highway, or charge into a on-ramp, will you think "Gee, I saved all that money!" I think not. Don't spend all that cash and not be happy with your choice. Buying a new car, especially a convertable, should be fun. You shouldn't be "oh well, I guess I'll get that one...."
The Bimmer is a nice car. Yes, expensive. Yes, 'common'. Of course, in some parts of the world (I live in Connecticut), Saab convertables are thick on the ground. Still nice cars.
No matter what you get, make sure you'll be happy with it. Don't settle for a car. If you're going to settle, then buy a used Saturn for $5K, and congradulate yourself on how much money you saved, every time you get passed by a kid on a skateboard.
