Has your mechanic done a 'leak-down' test? This will determine if the head gasket is faulty.
If the test does show the head gasket to be faulty, then you should go back to the Saab dealer and ask for the repair to be done right. There should be at least a mileage or yearly warranty on the work done.
Typically, when a head gasket is replaced, the head is checked for a 'true' surface, i.e. the head surface has to be perfectly level. If this step was neglected, it could mean that the new gasket didn't seal properly.
People on this board haven't been complaining about timing chain failures. These were common on the older 9000 model, but haven't been in evidence on the 9-5s. At the low mileage your car has, I would suspect you'd get 100K more miles before any timing chain issues arose, if they even did.
