No, not common. Installation problem Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Blown Head gasket after only 6000 miles?, Heidi, Tue, 1 Feb 2005 08:08:19 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
No, the normal life of a head gasket is much longer than 6000 miles. About the only thing you could have done to kill the car is to overheat it - like running out of coolant. If you don't remember seeing the temp gauge stuck in the red, you're OK.
I believe that a Saab dealer would offer a 12 month/12K mile warranty on all repair work. The warranty should be listed on the work order/receipt. If they don't stand behind it, threaten to contact both the Department of Motor Vehicles, and the your state Department of Consumer Protection. At least one, if not both, cover this sort of thing. Depends on your state. And if you continue to get grief, contact them. This is a contract issue, as the receipt is a contract of sorts.
Most likely it was a faulty head gasket. Things happen. And that's giving the shop the benefit of the doubt. The other would be an installation issue - incorrect torquing, re-use of head bolts, not checking head/deck for flatness, leaving bubble gum on the head when installing it, etc.
