I can get the Carfax for free, no problem - the dealer will run it for me. My own feeling about Carfax is that is essentially traces the title history, shows you how many owners the car has had, and that they didn't drop it into the ocean when they unloaded it. Also provides useful information as to when and where the titles transferred. But Carfax doesn't give you an insight into how the car's been maintained. F'rinstance, there was a nice looking black Viggen on eBay last year - but the Iris report was mysteriously skimpy - despite free maintenance, nothing showed up until 25K miles or so - no 1K inspection, no 10K & 20K service, zip. Steered clear of that one!

I used the Carfax info and Saab Iris report to sucessfully scope out and buy my wife's 9-5 wagon, which was an eBay purchase. Bought the car without first-hand inspection, it had a year and a half of original warranty left, arrived after a long trip from Missouri to western NY in absolutely gorgeous condition. It's proved to be a wonderful vehicle in every way. We've had it about 2 years now, and so far, we've done oil changes, Saab replaced a bunch of interior switch bulbs and the battery under warranty, and that's about it!

Back to the Aero: I don't think that anyone leasing a Saab with free maintenance is going to bother with more than the 10K and 20K oil changes - it's just human nature. Someone who buys one and intends to keep it? Sure. But I figure that with 27K on the odo and having been turned in after just 3 years and change is still pretty good.

I am, though, wary of why it didn't sell. That's the final piece of the puzzle, at least for me. If it doesn't snow a ton on Monday, I'm off to see it and will report back what I found.
