In 2000 and 2001 aero models, the auto box was a ZF (?) 4 speed and these cars not only didn't have the over boost function worth 15 more ft-lb of torque and 6 BHP the manual transmissions versions had, they were further torque limited down to 243 ft-lb compared to the 258 of the manuals. In other words, Saab didn't think the auto box could reliably take all the power the Aero engine could put out.
Nordic is trying to tell you something about the transmission too as their equivalent Stage 2 upgrade for the manual transmission 2000 Aero puts out 280 BHP and 310 ft-lb of torque. So Nordic either thinks the auto box is slightly more reliable than Saab does or they think the people who install their upgrade are more willing to chance a blown tranny.
For 2002 and/on, Saab switched to an Asian Warner 5 speed auto which is obviously much tougher as Both Saab and the tuners treat it the same as the manual tranny as far as horsepower and torque are concerned.
