But now you're describing the "minimum recommendation" from Saab's July '00 oil TSB, & essentially the same minimum recommendation from my '99 owner's manual. As a Group II+ oil, Delo 400 & Delvac 1300 Super are far beyond the protective abilities of conventional gasoline oils. Since they're assumed to be used in turbo deisel engines, the high temperature/high shear (HT/HS) rating, anti-wear additives, & cleanliness additives surpass what we see in any 5W/10W-30. I agree that these two oils would probably be safe for 6mos/5k miles, but most folks are scared off by the vis range & diesel rating.
However, based on the long-term oil testing I've been doing on our '99 9³, I have to disagree with your 6 month max limit. Any of Mobil's fully synthetic 0W-40, 5W-40 or 15W-50 oils will easily last for 10k miles or 2 yrs, whichever comes first. The T7 models covered under the retro warranty obviously exhibit some differences, so my results won't necessarily apply to all of those vehicles.
