Saab turbos are proven oil abusers. The minimum spec in my '99 9³ owner's manual is semi-syn meeting ACEA A3/B3. That means an oil that's more than dino but less than "real" full syn (ie, Mobil 1 or Amsoil), provides a more-durable-than-normal oil film, & is dual-rated for use in both gasoline & diesel engines. Here in the US, that's gonna be something like Shell's Rotella T Syn 5W-40. No, Saab's own OE 5W-30 Syn-Blend doesn't meet their '99 owner's manual's recommendations (the Euro oil they imported at that time, however, did).
And in July of 2000 Saab issued a TSB stating all cars were now factory-filled with (ACEA A3/B3) 0W-40 "real" full syn, & that this oil was being retroactively recommended for ALL MODELS of 900, 9000, NG900, 9³ & 9-5. Maybe if GM had let Saab use this oil for all included maintenance changes, they wouldn't be warranty-ing engines for eight years back...
