I disagree (obviously!). It's precisely BECAUSE of not using premium, fully syntheic oils (PAO/Group IV oils with superior gasoline/diesel additive packages) that these engine problems exist. Saab goes the extra mile in Europe by only offering ACEA A3/B3 oils under their name, but not here in the US. Yes, a premium dino (ACEA A3/B3) can provide acceptable protection, but obviously not to the same level.
We now have three cars at our house, & I don't want to be forced to change the oil every 6mos/5k mi for each one. Taking the time to learn which oils provide proper protection has saved me tons of maintenance time, money & waste, & gives my cars better protection to boot.
Don't get me wrong; I'm glad we agree that syn oils are the way to go in Saab turbos! I just feel it's too short-sighted to own cutting-edge-technology machinery & not demand the same level of protection for that machinery. (I wouldn't spend $2,000 on a commercial-level espresso machine & brew Chock Full O'Nuts with water I scooped from the toilet either...) But hey, everyone has their priorities.
