As John T says, this is a troubleshooting board - folks don't write in talking about how well the car ran today.

In terms of reliability, Saabs are right up there with other brands of the same caliber. And from what I've heard, better than others as of late, like Audi.

If you don't buy a Saab, what will you buy? How much work will it require?

If you are going to compare a Saab to a Honda or Toyota for reliability, yes, the Saab will not come out as well. Then again, Toyota has a major sludge issue, and Honda too, to some extent. If all that matters is reliability, don't buy a Saab. Or BMW, Audi, etc. Or any car. Walk.

Why should you buy a Saab? Because there are folks with 75K, 100K, 150K mile cars that care enough about them to keep working on them. Do Hondas generate that kind of enthusiasm? Not really. Do Hondas have a board like this? No - because those are appliances, and when they are used up, they get thrown away. Any Honda or VW board you see will be folks describing what new rims or what hot stereo they just put in. Fix them? Why bother - at 100K, it's used up.

This is an enthusiast board. Hey, a car that engenders enthusiasm - much nicer than an appliance.

Yes, Saabs require maintenance. Quite frankly, ALL cars do. Saab maintenance can be expensive. Same for other cars, by the way. But you can do a lot of your own maintenance, and save a bundle. If you do some of your own work, you can make a Saab affordable. Not so easy with an Audi or a BMW. And those are the cars we're comparing to, not an Accord. Saabs have this BB as a support structure.
