The 0-25mm (or 25-50mm) Micrometer can be tilted and inserted between the dust sheild and above the brake caliper to take measurements but a Vernier caliper will not fit.
Also the Micrometer can reach over the high outer ridges created when pads have worn down into the rotor but the Vernier caliper cannot.
So even if you would to remove the brake caliper you would not get an accurate measurement with a caliper due to that it get caught on the ridges.
