Sudden death seems to be the mode for automobile battery failure. In the olden days, they would seem to weaken, but not any longer (in my experience).
Failure in new imported cars is hastened by the delivery process. Drive a few feet, then wait a few weeks, repeat. FWIW Mrs. G's Olds dieda similar death on Sunday (2001 Ingrigue).
The best you can hope for is a battery failure on day 364 of the 4th year...
