I know a guy who used standard 10W-30 Wolf's Head oil in his MY99 for 100,000 miles but changed it every 3,000 miles. Lots of repairs in that time but nothing ever in the block. (oops, forgot he redid the timing chain).
Sure, I use synthetic but to suggest he dropped his bearings because he didn't use it is a bit speculative, especially when the dealers themselves rarely used it.
10:1 it's sludge related and the idiotic extended oil change intervals.
Frankly, the best thing Saab ever had going for it was engine longevity (as in the C900T's) that often sailed through 200k without a second thought.
Why, oh why Saab would take the best rep it ever earned and turn it around 180 deg. is beyond my reasoning ability.
