As SteveC points out, the tire pressure recommendation in the door jamb is for the maximum pressure designed for maximum load and in excess of 100mph. This is 6 psi over the "normal" recommendation for 1-3 passengers and less than 100mph. Using the 42 vs the 36 will always be safe so I understand why they went with it if they were only gonna' be allowed to put one number in the door jamb. BMW's have a small supplmental sticker alluding to this.
For maximum wear and comfort go with the correct tire pressures for the load and speed. I couldn't get an honest answer outa' the Aero Academny guys, but he hinted they use over 50 psi, but those Aero Academy 9-5's really get slid around......
