I am in the process of a pan and turbo sludge check/clean. Getting the turbo oil supply pipeoff the turbo end stopped me in my tracks. I figured I could get a bit more room with the thermo fans out, and removed the bypass line and valve etc but there was not enough room down near the water pump / air cond compressor to get the fan unit out, I think you would need maybe the turbo inlet nipple, and various other stuff like AC compressor moved even. I admitted defeat and retreated to make a DIY crows foot spanner out of an old 12mm ring and a whitworth socket. Will see how that goes tomorrow. I see why people say the oil delivery design is not ideal on this model, the pipe neatly wrapping up and over the very hot turbo unit, ready for the oil to sit there when you stop the motor.
In certain places, this car is very short on working space, but I guess that is true of any modern machine really.
