Defeated by the lower radiator hose.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 7 Nov 2005 10:12:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I planned to do a drain and fill of my anti-freeze, replace the thermostat, and replace both radiator hoses. Well, all is complete except the lower hose.
I finally gave up after three hours, much of which was spent fighting with the thermostat housing. For some reason the thermostat housing on my 2000 model does not have a slotted top hole as shown/described in the the WIS and EPC! So the upper mounting bolt has to be compeltely removed, not just loosened so housing can slide off this bolt, then re-installed. Naturally, this is positioned to be both blind and ackward. Very little room to work between the firewall and brake master cylinder, and beneath the fuel rail.
I tired to access the radiator end of the lower hose from beneath the car. I removed the snorkel inlet pipe and the intercooler inlet hose, no room from below and clamp is facing the wrong way. I can barely see the hose from the top side, but maybe with the fan shroud removed there will be enough space. The turbo inlet pipe may also have to be removed to gain access.
This really sounds like a job to be scheduled with a major upgrade of engine hardware, or done at same time the water pump is replaced. I was just trying to be proactive and avoid leaky hoses in the future.
