I think the Aero loses in acceleration to the S4 due to traction. It is difficult to launch a front drive car with loads of torque like an Aero, too many revs and youi sit there spinning the wheels, too little and the car bogs from turbo lag. To get the best time the balance must be perfect, and you still have to feather the throttle to avoid too much wheelspin. With the Audi, just rev to 5000 and dump the clutch, all wheel drive does have advantages. A more interesting comparison would be to check rolling acceleration - say from 60 to 80 or 40 to 60. Another factor to consider are the test conditions. The car mags and manufacturers rarely correct for difference in altitude, temperature, humidity and the coefficient of friction of the road surface. So, unless the cars are tested at the same venue, major variations may apply. True, turbo engines mitigate the changes somewhat, but are still affected.
