A 4.50 final drive ratio, given the same transmission gearing would mean that the Saab's engine was turning more per each turn of the wheels than an S4 with the 3.51 ratio you quoted. So if all things were equal, the Saab should accelerate faster. However, all things aren't equal and from what I can find, the axle ratios you quoted are not correct.
The axle ratio is only part of the story though, you have to combine the axle ratio with the gear ratio to find out what is really happening. The Aero's axle ratio (manual transmission), actually is 4.05 not 4.5 you quoted (see the Tech Specs in the Model Info section of Saabnet) and first gear is 3.38 giving a combined ratio of 13.69 in first. I've surfed out a couple of different gear ratios for an S4 (6 speed manual). The combined ratios for two sedan versions that had the same figures (4.11 axle, 3.5 1st gear) give a combined ratio of 14.39 meaning the S4's engine is turning more for each turn of the wheels than the Aero's. So all things being equal an S4 should be faster off the line.
