I have the Hakka 2 studded and minus-sized. The studs are loud and they hurt dry handling but in the snow, especially deep snow, they cannot be beat. In my state, they only allow the studs from Nov 1st to April 1st. The Hakka 2 has the silica compound as well so combined with studs driving on the ice is no problem.
That being said, there is a tradeoff for this type of tire. There is also the Nokian Rsi which I have yet to form an opinion on, the Hakka Q which is good, and the Nokian WR which is really an all season that does very well in the snow and decent on ice.
I've had these too.
Gislaved Nordfrost II. Good in the snow, not great on ice if you do not stud. Not sure if they make them anymore anyway.
Michelin Arctic Alpin. Decent on dry, good when it is slippery, not good in any snow depth. Whistles on wet roads.
Firestone Winterfire. Actually not bad. Not good on the ice without studs. Noisy? Good in the deep snow.
