Saab has gone through a bunch of changes. I know my 1972 Saab 96 was a neat little car, but very noisy, and Taunus Ford V-4 powered. But the 4 on the tree and the freewheeling was neat. Great until the transaxle failed. I liked the Saab 99 best of all but never got to own one. My 1982 900T was all Saab but leaked oil like crazy, had electrical issues, turbo issues, transmission and clutch issues, cost me an average of over $2000 a year in repairs. Then the 9-5, although it's GM inspired, it's fairly quiet, tight, doesn't drip oil, seems reliable so far, and is more refined than previous Saabs. But mine has a V-6 from Opel/Vauxhall and an Aisin transmission? Saab even used Triumph engines in the early 99's. It seems like Saab and Volvo tend to use parts from everywhere so is it a really a Saab? I think the 9-5 is but the 9-3, 92X, 97X are not.
