a) the 9-5 4-cylinder leaves a quart in the oil cooler when it's drained (unlike the V-5 and 9-3SS models, which have oil-to-coolant heat exchangers).
b) the 9-5 4 cylinder features "low tension rings" which allow more blowby and hence more soot into the oil.
Both will result in the oil looking dark, even right after an oil change.
As for the overfill - did they charge you for 4 liters and put in 5? I don't know Beacon Motors - is it a dealer or independent? Loose drain plug is unusual - more common is an over-tightened drain plug...
