I just traded my 94 aero with 202k miles for an 02 aero wagon with 85k miles about two months ago. Both are 5 speeds. I ran 225's and did the jt 3" turbo back on the 94. It rode like it was on rails, and pulled strong in all gears.
The 02 is certainly more refined, with great ammenities such as rain sensing wipers, rear parking assist, etc., but rides softer and does not grab like the 94 did in the turns. The seats are not as nice as the 94's for the driver and front passenger, but the 02 has airbags in them instead of shoulder bolsters, and that's a trade off I do not mind. The rear seats seem fine in the 02, but I have not riden back there yet. My kids say the rear heated seats work fine.
The 02 motor is smooth at all rpm's, and while it feels anemic in 1st because it is so boost restricted, 2nd gear sprints are a gas, and a srpint in 3rd is simply a rocket ride. All in all, the 02 seems to pull stronger, including little 5th gear passes on the highway when you rely on low rpm torque to get you by quickly without a downshift.
I am very pleased with the transition, and find the room in the wagon to equal the hatchback.
