If the shop is a dealer they have to maintain the spiel that the software is not needed anymore since they otherwise would open themself up to more problems not offering that SW as part of the IDM recall program.
If the software package ONLY was created as a helpful tool for those cars, why is it installed in cars after 2003 that supposedly are fixed from factory?
And also, why did they bundle other fixes unrelated to the IDM in that same software?
The whole text description of that package is as followed.
<Support for Tech 2 special function to detect Ignition Discharge Module failure. Improved control of ignition trig drivers to protect Ignition Discharge Module. Cold engine protection implemented. Improved CC tip in / out. Improved knock detection.>
You can't pick and choose when you download it. It's all or nothing.
I do not know what the cold engine protection means or the cruise control in/out. Have not been able to find anymore text about the subject.
