When my DIC failed I called Saab Roadside Assistance (I'm under warranty) who sent a tow. It was a very similar failure mode: started, ran badly, quit, wouldn't restart. Of course, the driver left the key on. This is almost alwasy done with Saabs because you have to have the key on to get in neutral and haul it up on the flatbed. It's extra bother to climb up and get the key out.
Mine seems to have suffered no damage. Had I known about the fire issue I would have insisted that the driver climb up and pull out the key. Why didn't Roadside Assistance tell me or the driver to do that?
