Who gives a damn about the views of Clarkson? Here in the UK he's seen as entertainer and journalist, but you shouldn't take him too seriously.
I've owned Saabs since 1973: my first was a 96V4 which the wife and I drove every day for 25 years! Even these old free wheel models were perceived by others (wrongly) as being expensive in the UK, and the cars were living on the reputation of a number of 60's Monte Carlo rally wins.
My current yr 2000 9-5 Sportswagon has covered 170 000 miles, with the first problem just emerging (see 'intermittent starting problem' posted previously).
European prices seem much higher than in the US (cars and gas). Thank goodness that Saabs do depreciate fast in the first 2 or 3 years! The local (Liverpool) Ford plant now makes Jaguar and Land Rovers: I'll be sticking with my Swedish import!
