Brakes and rotors

Mechanically inclined folks:
I have an 01 9-5 wagon (SE) (75K miles) that had the rears milled a couple weeks back and we did not do fronts. I am third owner of car, and it had 60 K service done on it prior to my purchase, and I have put about 14.5 K Miles on it myself since I bought it in April... The say to do your brakes every 10K, so I figured I am overdue. Mind you I feel no warp or wobble or hear any squealing....
All that being said I have NOT brought the car to a mechanic so I don't know the state of the pads or rotors for the front.
I was told that the rotors on new cars need to be replaced with new ones when you are replacing the brake pads... that they can't be milled. I called both Saab and a Tires Plus dealer and they state (independantly), that both the pads AND rotors must be replaced every time. (quoted $511 and $380, respectively for parts labour etc.)
I run the 16 inch stock tire size and am guessing that I have the 16 inch rotors (Tires Plus finds 15 and 17 inch rotors easy, 16 incher are harder to come by... how come)??
The situation strikes me as very odd, since I have had a non-Saab vehicle for several years and the most I ever needed to do was mill the rotors... not outright replace them.
Can anyone shed some light on what the correct course of action would be here???
