V6 Timing Belt Tensioner Adjustment (kinda long)

On the tensioner there is moving part that moves up and down very fast. It has a mark on it that lines up to the timing mark on the tensioner body after turning the Crank 720 degrees. My question is, where should it hover over? After starting the motor mine moves up and down under the timing mark on the body of the tensioner. Should it hover going above and below the timing mark on the body, but not getting too close the the ends? The reason I am asking is because I changed the belt and tensioners my self and the timing is good because I drove up to 100 mph and it drives like normal, but after the motor warms up, I hear a tapping sound comming from the area of the serp tensioner or the timing tensioner behind the cover. I can not pin point it. I turned it on without the motor mount and I still heard the noise. I removed the serp and I did not hear the noise. I removed the timing cover and see the tensioner part moving very fast up and down but comming pretty close to the lower end of the body of the tensioner. I am wondering if it is the moving part tapping the end of the tensioner body. Any ideas? Thanks, sorry for the longer read :)
