Maybe you got the wrong belt?
It is a couple of different timing belts out there with different marks depending on if used on a 900/9000 V6 or the 9-5 V6.
Some timing belt kits have dual marking and a description which one to use if installed on an old GM V6 or a newr GM V6. It is white and yellow lines dending on the year.
Hopefully you got it right?
The two idler pulleys are NOT and I repeat, NOT a tensioner pulley. They are not used to take up slack of the belt that the tensioner can't handle but purely a stabilizing pulley and used to "time" to 4 cam shafts to each other and the crank.
It took me awhile to figure it out the first time but when I did, I move the two idlers into an approx position as the picture show before touching the tensioner pulley and then come after with the tensioner to an approx position and rotate the engine by hand to see where I'm at, and then just do some fine tuning of the two idlers and tensioner as a last adjustment.
