I think I got it! (knock on wood) I had to loosen the two idlers again and re tighten to the specs on Anders pic. I did not have a 30mm deep offset wrench to adjust it, so I used a normal 30mm socket and moved it a little and then retighten and adjust and retighten. For the last adjustment my dad held the idler with a set of pliers while I tightend the torex screw. Two things that I was not 100% happy with the job. 1) It seemed that the t-belt I orderd from thesaabsite.com did not have the proper marks on the belt. If I lined up the crank double lines and the ones for #3 and #4 cam the slack between them was too much even for the lower idler to tension right. So when I tried to get the marks to line up on the #1 and #2 cams it was way way off and there was not enough slack for the belt to get around the t-belt tensioner. What I had to do was give more teeth to the t-belt tensioner by adjusting the belt and my double lines were on the left side of the crank and that also releived slack on the side of the lower idler and #3 and #4 that I mentioned before. I do not know if what I did was right but it allowed me to place the belt over the tensioner and get proper tension on the other idlers. 2) I had to releave some tension to the t-belt tensioner to properly align the mark on the moving part of the tensioner and the mark on the body. It seemed like If I tighted the tensioner the moving part would move down, if I released tension it would move up into proper alignment. After making sure that afer 720 degree turn of the crank all the cam marks lined up with the back timing plate I turned on the car. The moving part on the tensioner was not moving as much as Anders said it should. So I think that my initial error was not getting the idlers in the exact position as Anders pic. I drove it on the free way again at 80 mph and still running like normal and no tapping sound now! I hope my ordeal is over after all day saturday, sunday evening, and monday evening. (yeah putting everything off and on and adjusting takes non-mechanic me a while :)
Tools used:
3/4 Socket to remove motor mount
5/8 socket to remove motor mount plate on motor and serp tensioner.
torex socket set to remove the timing cover, pow steer pulley, crank pulley, idlelers.
10mm socket to remove bolts on water pump pulley
2 small vice grip pliers to lock cam sprokets
2 small c-clamps to clamp the new belt on the cam so it will not jump.
30mm socket to adjust idlers
13mm wrench to adjust t-belt tensioner bolt
5mm (i think) allen to adjust the tensioner
Please advise on what I should look out for if something is not done exactly right.
