Hi everyone, great info Swedecar? Well, I've also tackled this most required maintenance issue. No books or intructions either! I have only one question though: What exactly is the order of the cam pulleys? Is it in order from left to right 1,2,3,4? Also, there are 2 marks on each pulley, but I'm guessing that the corresponding number closest to the corresponding notch on the pulley is the mark we line up with the notch on the back timing cover? I think that stupid GM engraved 1-2 and 3-4 on each pulley so that they were sort of univeral? It's a bit unclear so I'd like to know before I put on my belt and fire everything up. Second bullet: The thermostat is a royal PAIN IN THE ASS!!! I had to remove everything on top of the manifold, including the manifold, then back out the screw holding the pipe to the front of the engine where the rubber hose goes, and also loosen up each timing cover screw to give me a half inch more clearance, then finally wrestle with sliding the thermostat out. Unless absolutely necessary, I don't recommend replacing the thermostat to anyone. The water pump is a breeze. Another note, make sure you support the engine with a jack lift before taking off the engine support in the engine compartment. Once the support is out, all the outer pulleys come off pretty easily. Which of course gives you access to remove the timing outer cover. My cost for timing tensioner and pulley, belt, water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt, serpentine belt tensioner pulley, and a new fuel filter was about $500. Compared to a quoted price of about $1700 at the dealer, I highly recommend doing this job (minus the thermostat) yourself. It really isn't rocket science, just make sure you have a good selection of 6pt sockets handy. The 12pt I DON'T recommend because they end up stripping off the Torx bolts. The 6pt bites in better. Anyway, my job is about done, just waiting on the one timing idler pulley which was backordered from EEuroparts.com. Will follow up with success/failure message later in the week hopefully. But if someone could please give me quick note regarding which notches correspond to which pulleys, I'd greatly appreciate it!! Thanks all, great site, huh??
