The 9-5 is a battery eating "hog".
What happens is that the battery have plentyful of power to crank over the engine and start it but while doing so, the voltage level drops so low in the battery that many computers go crazy including the fuel computer (below life sustaining voltage). So when the engine start, the fuel computer does not have enough capacity to run all systems until the alternator have started to put back enough voltage to make them work again.
On the early Volvo S80 which are a lot worse, you can even get the SRS light and other warning lights to come on when starting the car with a weak enough battery.
