Need Advice! DIY Rotating Tires. Stupid Question.

This may seem like a stupid question BUT, Anyone else rotate their tires themselves in their garage? What direction do you go? I have jack and stands (2). The jobs seems easy enough, but I usually spend the $40 to have the local mechanic do it at intervals of 5k. Any thoughts?
