I just sent a Nissan back to the dealer because they used an impact wrench to reinstall the wheels after some CV work. One lug was stuck and he had to replace a stud. Overtightened lugs can warp the rotor.
For me, it's not the money. It's avoiding the damage the mechanics can do. Besides, the time to DIY is shorter than waiting at the shop.
Tools needed: hydraulic jack, decent torque wrench, and a tube of anti-seize compound.
Yes, I like the confidence of consistency with a torque wrench.
