The myth of new technology?

I keep reading about how "outdated" the 9-5 is due to the fact that it's a 10 years old platform. We hear it all the time and seem never to challenge it. Newer platforms may offer newer styling, but driving around in mine current model 9-5, I really don't see where the newer competing platforms offer more substance.
So what is it exactly that has become outdated? The body? Suspension? Powertrain? Electronics?
Personally, I just don't see the grand difference so often alluded to by the professional road testers or so many of our fellow Saabneters. In my view, the 9-5 body is rock solid, stiff, with terrific dynamic properties as evidenced by excellent handling over bumpy, pock marked and washboard roads. It has one of the lowest drag coefficients in the industry -better than Corvette, or Lambourghinis.
Likewise, I can't see where newer cars posess any grand advancement in suspension design that wasn't known or hasn't been refined in the 9-5. And for the kind of driving most of us do, it wouldn't matter.
Neither are the powertrain or electronics systems impaired by the age of the platform. The 2.3 boasts the best power to displacement specs you'll find anywhere. And electronics modules can be upgraded fairly easily as new developments and market demand warrant.
In my view, this constant complaint about the age of the 9-5 is baseless. What do you think?
