dtech, as posters note, not just one chain to deal with. The chain noise you hear is most likely both chains. not just one. If timing chain has stretched, then balance shaft chain has also , and must be dealt with. You can roll in a new timing chain, replace guide in valve cover, but the easy stuff ends there. I would love to talk with the person(s) who authored the engine in car replacement of both chains procedure. I could not do it, and needed to. Rather than removing engine, I ended up rolling in new timing chain, and removing balance shaft chain. To my pleasant surprise, vibration w/o balance shaft chain is not noticeable - '01 aero automatic - one cautionary word here= cutting and pulling out balance shaft chain must be done carefully. Regardless of what you do, chain stretching usually fallout from varying degrees of oil starvation . And 14 mm is stil 1 mm under must replace threshold. Pull pan, clean pickup, and if so inclined, do plasti guage test on bottom end. Best first step- read Chuck Andrews extensive and spot on articles from Nines . good luck Tom S.
