The oil light is not an "add oil" or "time for an oil change" light. If so much as twinkles, you stop there. Interesting that the NPR Car Guys had a similar call recently. Is there some sort of trend in people not being aware of this? The generation that remembers the wholesale transition for oil gages to oil lights knows this well but now with all the sometimes meaningless warning lights on the dash these days it may be getting lost to entire generations, especially since they (the oil light) do so rarely ever go on given anything close to routine recommend maintenance. On the Car Guys the caller was actually waiting for the oil light to go on before taking it in for an oil change. Bye bye engines.
