CPO is prima facia evidence of oil change history prior to your buying the car. It's on the checklist. If you have receipts for what's been done since, either for the job being done or for oil meeting the manufacturer's spec and Saab size filters in the appropriate quantity, you should be covered under the 8 year/unlimited mileage sludge warranty.
*IF* it's sludge damage, I'd spring for Bob Bright's trick oil pan. It has a trap door under the oil pickup, which collects debris washed down from the top end and allows you to remove the debris and clean the oil pickup tube whenever you change oil. Short of hot-tanking the block and head, you will never get all the accumulated sludge out of the engine, and it will wash down and clog the screen again.
